Miyamanishiki RICE : 美山錦

Origin

In 1972, gamma ray irradiation was used to treat ``Takane Nishiki'' at the Nagano Prefectural Agricultural Experiment Station, leading to the creation of this variety through mutation. The Yamagata Prefecture declared it an excellent variety in 1988. .

Characteristic

Grown in abundance in Nagano Prefecture and Tohoku, the plant's cold-resistance is a key factor in its widespread cultivation. It is also often used to create colder climate-adapted offspring varieties such as ``Dewa Sansan'' and ``Koshi no Shizuku.''
